A Gun for Jennifer

right off the bat this movie is sooo disturbing and unsettling and then it strangely becomes comforting as it progresses and the gang and killings start becoming more erratic. they try to be the voice of reason but Jesse just wants to keep serving justice and it gets her and all but two of her members killed.

the colour grading was sooo beautiful and the way the camera tends to gravitate towards one person despite others and or objects being in frame worked so well - and the pacing was perfect. 

the cops in this movie suck. misogynist, vile men who hire 12 year old callgirls. and our lady cop, Billie, has to put up with it. but deep down she knows these men who are being killed deserve it, she even out right says it. but she can’t do anything besides let the two surviving members, Jennifer/Allison and Priscilla, go. 

what’s really beautiful about this movie is that it’s a rape-revenge film that doesn’t really Show the rape. sure, you see images, you see a short scene of clothes being ripped off, you see groping, but it’s not there to be The Focus. what is the focus is the graphic nature of these man - these rapists - dying. the castrations, the shootings, the blood, the brains. really, really incredible to see a rape-revenge movie framed this way.

a pretty grotesque and gritty interpretation of vigilantes that hunt down sex offenders. the violence is handled with no sympathy, purely purposed to gush pain into degenerate male subjects in frame. a surprisingly well filmed low budget flick with every scene looking crisp especially when the masked women hold their guns against the perpetrators.

the thing that tears this down for me a bit is how it’s conventionally broken down in terms of purpose and characters. it feels like a film made for men with the whole trauma dumped vengeance. rather than make the events seem more tragic and grounded for the purpose of violence, it acts like a simple background.

A Gun for Jennifer started off really strong for me, I love Ms .45 and thought this was going to be something along those lines, and it was until it just goes off the rails for me in the end. Overall still an intriguing revenge tale and some very enjoyable shots. Strongest performance came from Benja Kay as Det. Billie Perez she put her heart and soul into this whenever they are on screen.
