I started watching this for meiko kaji but was amazed by the performance of mekio Harada. Lullaby of the earth is a drama movie focusing on an orphaned girl sold to a geisha house. Rin the orphaned girl (meiko harada) really has it hard and watching her life unfold made me think of Cormac McCarthy novel. It's definitely not as dark as a Cormac novel but the feeling is definitely there. The characters and performances are very well done. It's definitely a character study and takes some time to get going but when it does it all the beats a dramatic movie like this should. It's well directed and the location is beautiful. The ending is good too and feels right for the character. Mrkio kaji only makes an appearance for 2 minutes though but she's always great. Lullaby of the earth is a great character movie. Rin is a character you really root for in the end. I really enjoyed it and it was a very good movie.
