The voiceovers, editing and overall filmmaking style evoke the nostalgic charm of 2000s and early 2010s CBBC, British filmmaking—a distinctive spirit that feels lost to time in comparison to modern day documentaries, but carried on in the generation that grew up with it. Makes me excited for the uprise of Gen Z Filmmaking.
The ending, where the duo reflects on the purpose of their work and its meaning, reminded me of a project I created last year, which also aimed to capture a space undergoing rapid transformation (Walthamstow 😪). Like this film, I grappled with the theme of gentrification, but this project offers a more focused look. What I want to emphasise is that there is a purpose. In a few years, these spaces will look drastically different. What was once familiar may be gone, and the value of capturing the stories of these people and documenting how these places once appeared will only grow with time. Such reflections will serve as a powerful reminder of what was, preserving moments and voices that might otherwise be forgotten because no one else is really capturing what goes on in these areas.
Great watch, came out really inspired to create.
