FUCK IT.

this is one of the few comic book movies i’ve actually never seen. this movie was previously in the same club as the likes of x men origins wolverine, catwoman, pretty much any of the original superman movies, steel, howard the duck, madame web, and of course kraven. when i started this movie just from the intro i was surprised that this movie came out in ‘08. the intro feels like the beginning of spider-man 1, daredevil, like those old original early 2000s super hero movies. i think if you showed this movie and the dark knight to anyone from today and told them they came out the same year, they wouldn’t believe you. the acting in this is also seriously awful, as is the script so idk how much they really had to work with as actors. but there’s a part that i just was in physical pain listening to, its when the bad guy, immediately after finding out his face is fucked up, is like “billy is dead, from now on, call me JIGSAW” and i was just buried in the back of my couch at that point. ended up starting to fall asleep but i honestly doubt i’ll ever return to this to finish it.

Marvel was quick to replace actors for roles back in the day. Replacing Jane with Ray Stevenson was upsetting for me when announced, however Stevenson did an awesome job with Frank!! This movie is very different than the 2004 version too. Way more violent and a bit more over the top. Jigsaw was awesome!! Micro was great too. Again they definitely took inspiration from many of the greater Punisher comics. It's 100% worth a watch for both Marvel and non Marvel fans!

obviously, not a perfect movie like I do have some qualms with it, but it’s still really solid stuff you got great casting choices all across the board Ray Stevenson great performance, guy looks like a Tim Bradstreet cover come to life, really love, the fact that he still carries that fatherly sort of energy with the kids, the prosthetic work on jigsaw incredible, and I cannot forget the incredible gorgeous cinematography in this, just beautiful stuff. Gotta add big bonus points for having Frank’s family death be just something where they had bad luck and got caught in the crossfire of a mob hit and not some big government conspiracy theory looking at you Bernthal, and on the story not being the same old Frank is trying to stay away from killing you know the same story that’s kind of been rehashed 50 fucking times, but the story has an interesting premise that kickstarts a lot of the emotional drive being that Frank does something to someone that he doesn’t know about and sort of falls into this pitiful place and challenges his views for the first time in a while, what used to be black and white is suddenly turned grey (him killing a certain someone don’t wanna spoil) , which is a place that Frank hasn’t really been explored yet nearly as much as it should be cause we’re too busy reheating the same nachos.
Still believe from a characterization standpoint that it is Frank Castle at his best, only competition being MCU one which literally peaked in his first appearance (Daredevil season 2) and has only gotten worse as the years have gone by and appearances and projects have stacked up. 
I kinda don’t trust a soul who doesn’t give this at least a 7/10

Jeg vil ikke si at filmen er dårlig, men det er ikke bra heller. Det er en typisk action film som man kan nyte, men for meg er den ikke noe spesiell (langt ifra). Jeg liker godt Frank Castle som karakter, fremstillingen av han i filmen er solid men manuset kunne ha vært mye bedre, samme med actionscenene
