Despite being a sequel that fairly well captures the tone of its predecessor and provides a a decently neat and tight follow up, Adulthood feels like an unnecessary fan fiction from a teenager that didn’t quite understand the parabolic nature of the first film.
The first film in the hood trilogy, Kidulthood, had a fairly obvious message about UK gang culture and the vicious cycle of consequences that it leads to the possibility of. It’s portrayed similarly to films such as Boyz in the Hood and Blue Story. Any valuable takeaways in this film however, are drowned out by GCSE Drama standard acting, plots and screenwriting.
