A really interesting view into how the gay scene in the 1970's was unable to find a unified vision for themselves under the pressures of society and the then just mitigated section 175 of the German Criminal Code. It is understanding and condemning at the same time and many of the problems stated within it are to this day affecting the community.

It is a little weird though. When I first started watching it, I really enjoyed the odd dubbing, awkward scene transitions, mixing of narrators and change between documentary and story driven filmmaking. After having watched Rosa von Praunheim's newest picture, though, I can't help but think some of those choices didn't come from a place of artistic genius...I'm not willing to say, jt would have been done as a video essay today, but it is kind of on the verge.

Still, I think it is an inspired way of putting a multilayered subject into cinematic form.
