Madame X – An Absolute Ruler
Really whacky and experimental. I liked the first half and then it didn’t hold up… The direction sucks and it was very confusing at times, some things did make sense with the ending but some are still nonsense in a bad way. I have to highlight the character and costume designs tho, the best part of the movie I’d say. I may be too jojopilled but they really look like stand users which made me keep watching it against my better judgement and unfortunately the movie just went downhill since the yacht. I was willing to tolerate it being orientalist (Honestly I’m still confused to if Madam X is supposed to be wasian??) but then it got ridiculously racist + the thing that made Madam X somewhat interesting was revealed to be fake/partially fake and on top of all at the end they got a woman doing blackface?? That’s like the nail in the coffin. Really sad because the beginning was very promising but it didn’t live up to my expectations and yes I know it’s a movie from the 70’s but the concept of a pirate lesbian movie in that decade it’s already crazy you would think they have more b
