Aside from a few standout scenes: Patricia Clarkson giving an emotional delivery in full clown makeup, and the emotionally charged scene between Deschanel and Schneider when she comes back from her trip, the movie as a whole felt too slight to make a real impact on me. Loved the autumnal North Carolina setting, interesting to peer in to these small town lives. Schneider and Deschanel have great chemistry in this. I feel like if I watched it when I was in high school, this movie would have been my whole personality.
