John Kelly’s Oscar nominated short film Retirement Plan is beautiful and heartbreaking. Following the life of an average, ordinary man making his plans for his future retirement, Retirement Plan is a powerful reminder that life on Earth is continuously expiring. We make all of these plans, a bucket list of things to do before we die. But we physically can’t do everything we want to do, and that really is heartbreaking. The responsibilities we’ve been given makes us set those bucket list items aside for retirement. But by the time we retire, our bodies physically can’t do those things anymore. It’s unfair, but as Frank Sinatra says, “that’s life”.
