ultimately thought this was really sweet, made me feel like I wanna go to the beach!! some of the short films didn’t work that well for me but I loved some of them a lot - the dog dream sequence, salty & the smugglers, the sandcastle battle, the baby who yearned for the ocean in covid, the baby who wanted to save her sister. very endearing and some of the animation was WONDERFUL!! I also really loved that they included the parents speaking to the kids in Korean Sotho & Auslan, even if it was just a few words. initially I was like wait there’s no subtitles I can’t understand what they’re saying…. but then I was like no that’s beautiful because it’s not actually for me to understand….

They should’ve gone to the beach that makes you old
Love this for the Australian Film Industry. Has some of the most unique animation styles I have seen in a long time and some amazing comedy. Magic Beach is also really done well with representation, with one short film being done in AUSLAN which is great for children who sign. I did feel the film drag towards the end even though it’s only 80 minutes but I recommend you see this as soon as you can.
