the first movie that legitimately made me wonder if the entire thing was AI generated
the animation sucks — i abhor its glossy 3d uncanny valley style. it is legitimately fruit love island core. there were zero inventive uses of the medium. it looks bad and isn’t creative
the jokes are millennial humor. miss for the target audience. several audible groans from the theater. i laughed because my friends were there and some of them were laughing. i would not have laughed if i was on my own
and the plot is borderline insidious. in the same way the abundance agenda is insidious because it looks at a real problem and suggests a seemingly plausible yet very status-quo solution, hoppers attempts to tackle an anxiety-inducing existential threat for modern youth — one that it correctly clocks that the youth really care about — and softballs the fuck out of the message. “we can solve climate change if we work together! nobody’s the bad guy!”
but it’s a kids movie? fair enough. it just sucked if you’re an adult. i’m putting my kid on the manifesto instead of this slop
they phoned in everything about this movie. wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy

You are an up-and-coming Hollywood producer with a handful of small successes under your belt. You’re meeting with Pixar execs in a few days, and need to pitch a 2026 theatrical release they’ll get behind.
Success with this project means box office profits, for both you and Pixar. Artistic value is not a part of the success criteria. Incept a cheap movie that America’s youth will watch in droves.
Consider the market. America’s youth fears climate change, but don’t want to be told the world is ending. Let’s put forth a heartwarming, not-too-earth-shattering proposed solution, like “everyone cares”, or “let’s all work together”. Consider using AI-generated animation.
Let’s make our main character a passionate, righteous young girl, so our target audience can identify with her, but let’s make sure there’s talking animals in there. This is Pixar, after all.
