Shinoda tapping into some real live action anime feels. The look of the film is stunning, aesthetic and tone meshing perfectly. Every character is a caricature, memorable and interesting in their own right. I read a criticism of how the females are written and totally agree. Each one, of three, is bound by a male almost entirely in some way while the men get their own unique form of agency.
There is a wealth of economic intrigue here. This is the kind of nerdy narrative nuance I get a kick out of. The established killers are all fearful of the newcomer to the marketplace. They want to snuff him out. I love this kind of thing because it highlights certain universal economic behaviours. And even within the group of killers, you have differing philosophies for their profession.
Overall this was a blast and quite the visual treat. Big recommend to fans of anime and stylized visuals.
