Fifteen-year-old Gabo seems like a regular teenager who goes to school, plays video games with his best friend, and does other things a normal teenager would do – except he’s not. He has tendencies he knows to be wrong, but cannot control. He befriends Dave, a much older man with his fantasies. Lines soon start to blur between a trusting friendship and being groomed. Once Dave is arrested on suspicion of statutory rape, Gabo must suddenly decide whether to testify against his mentor with the risk of exposing his secret.

The history of Germany and this particular subject matter is interesting on a brief read with a specific focus on trying to rehabilitate those afflicted before they can hurt others and started said initiative back in 2005. This helps provide the more sentimental and empathetic spotlight on a subject that lots, especially in the United States, consider taboo and refuse to have real, genuine, needed conversation about rather than the bloodthirsty takes that are usually circulating around these issues. Especially when talking about it in an official governmental/therapy/health stance.

Like The Woodsman, everything about this is extremely uncomfortable. But, I think it needs to be to realize that this uncomfortability is a day-to-day reality to some and some of those people are begging to not be this way and the audience has to live in that uncomfortability to realize it as well. I don't know, but I will say that Carlo Krammling's feature debut performance is consistently excellent from beginning to end.

This film did an incredible job storytelling such a hard yet very important topic often missed in mainstream media. Carlos did an incredible job acting and portraying a very troubled character without falling into the poorly portrayed teenager trap. Although I had to pause a few times because of how heavy it was, I would say this is definitely one of the best works I have seen.
