fr tho every single line and lyric from this film are like a punch to my fucking gut even after rewatching it over and over again. we say things rewired our brains all the time but i was truly Not The Same after watching this for the first time. tbh the most formative piece of media for me. no words seem like enough to describe how powerful it is like it truly grasped onto my soul and never let go. origin of love is also the best song ever written out of anything ever #Real
the parallels between origin of love and wicked little town (tommy gnosis version) are literally insane like who the FUCK writes “maybe there’s nothing up in the sky but air / and there’s no mystical design / no cosmic lover preassigned / there’s nothing you can find that cannot be found” AFTER an entire song about how the gods split our original forms in two because we were too powerful together so we’re now doomed to an eternity of attempting to find our one true soulmate?? IT RUINED MY LIFE IT GAVE BIRTH TO ME ITS ABSOLUTE MADNESS I THINK ABOUT IT WHILE IM DREAMING I THINK ABOUT IT WHILE IM AWAKE IT LIVES IN MY MIND RENT FREE.
it explores so much while barely saying anything at all. gender, love, soulmates, the exploitation of queer artists, religion. not to mention how symbolically it shows all of these concepts in just the cinematography, the fashion, the ANIMATED INTERLUDES??? everything is just PERFECT. and it’s a fucking hilarious comedy? what did we do to deserve this movie, truly?
