David Gulpilil's screen presence is enormous. He was always far and beyond the most memorable aspect of any project he had a significant role in, no matter how high in quality the rest of the project was. In this film he's electric, acting circles around his white co-stars who are simply trying their best (to varying degrees of success). Rolf de Heer's directing is great, the use of the paintings was an especially outstanding creative choice. On the other side of that, I really hate the music choices used here. Completely fucks up multiple scenes. The execution scene should be the film's most powerful moment but it's completely undermined by the music choices.
