I don’t think this is as bad of a thriller film as most people but then again I am pretty bias towards The Rock. I’ll start off by saying the pacing for this film isn’t the greatest, the bond between John and his son isn’t really what drives this film into a great thrill fest. Or any of the familial relationships in that matter.
I understand it’s necessary to have some dramatic elements to really bring the core of caring about the people in the film but it’s just mostly generic stuff every now and then. But I do think how John Matthews is written and portrayed is done really well. Having to deal with the safety of two different families while executing this operation makes me care.
I just think this is a thrill to watch since The Rock isn’t just some badass guy who gets through things easily, he’s actually this very vulnerable guy trying to help his son. It’s also a great perspective of the war on drugs and how the government decides to handle with drug prevention. It doesn’t get deep into the system but enough to understand how irrational prison sentences could be and how inhumanely the government will risk the lives others to get what’s done.
