As a man you’re either Withnail or the other one. the one that leads or the one that is strung along. I’ve been curious about this one for a while, as I was watching the relationship dynamic between them was what caught my interest. I think the UK has had much more meditation on the dynamics of men, toxicity lined with courage or cowardice lined with moral superiority. Is this the fate of every man? I’d like to think one can withhold the bad while striving to have those better qualities. As I was watching I was thinking of The Servant (1963), another UK film exploring very similar themes. Less gay this time around. People keep saying they’re a couple oooooo they’re gay. This is just guys being dudes. I’ll tune in every time.
