Harry is a shy hardware store employee. But whenever he takes a part in a local amateur theater production, he becomes the part completely--while on stage. Helene is new in town, a lonely itinerant telephone company employee. On a whim, she auditions for and gets the part of Stella to Harry's Stanley when the theater group performs A Streetcar Named Desire. Before anyone realizes the growing affection between Helene and Stanley, she falls deeply in love with the sexy brute, not knowing what the real man is like.

“Sometimes I’d get so caught up I’d love Harry like I’d love Abraham Lincoln. I’d have to come back to earth and remind myself that he wasn’t ever going to free the slaves.”
Very messy but still so charming. I really wish this had been a full length feature. Great script. My favorite bits of course were the community theatre details like the crying stagehand in the first scene. I kind of hated Walken as Stanley Kowalski though.

ok this is like a really cool short film to just stumble upon. we essentially get to see these two future mega stars in a theatre production of one of the most classic musicals ever and how those dynamics effect them into their real worlds.
it’s so cool how it portrays the stage and plays themselves as this free space where despite them reading the lines given to them, they are speaking straight to each other about how they really feel. that third rendition was incredible with the high tension and emotional state they’re in to see all of that filled out into their performances was amazing.
it’s kind of an advocate for people to venture into the arts like these two admittedly awkward and shy people found not only someone to love but also there on voice and kind of regained agency over how they live their lives.
