It is always excited to find things like this. One night, I was listening Akira Yamaoka and a cover of one his songs played after. I am listening to the cover artist, turns out he did a soundtrack to a movie. I found the trailer very impressive. Somehow it only had a few hundred views despite the film playing and receiving praise in a few festivals around China and Asia.
Eventually I become acquainted with the Director. We have been talking for a while and hope we can get it screened in the west sometime.
On its own terms I am absolutely astonished by this film. The Dog and The Fountain is an incredibly bleak film. It's not too often a film drains me this much. While not intentional, I can't help but be reminded of the pandemic quarantine a few years back. I don't think any other film post covid has captured this feeling. If you are a fan of Hu Bo or Tsai Ming Ling, I highly recommend this debut film when it is released.
