Storywise, the live action did a lot better in presenting the story by doing it with more actual dialogues instead of constant monologues. While the original anime didn't leave any emotional impact for me, here in the live action adaptation, it touches me and made me actually feel for the characters.
Visualwise, and this is probably a hot take, but I'd prefer the LA adaptation instead of the anime.
Yes, the original's visual was as gorgeous as it can be thanks to Shinkai and his team's work, but the LA version managed to bring out the 2000s nostalgia aesthetic thanks to its super grainy and oversaturation (?) filter visual, which I think works best for these type of romance films.
