I love that this was Salma’s passion project and you can really see how much she cared by how much she put into her performance, this words because of her. A lot of cool editing choices and loved the incorporation of her art. Unfortunately, you can feel Weinstein’s impact on the production of this film. The downplaying of Frida’s feminist identity, over-sexualising her, heavily focusing on her relationship and the decision to tell this story in English just takes away further from the cultural impact that she deserved. Definitely doesn’t paint Frida as well as she does herself.
