As a longtime fan of the Middle Earth Universe, I thought it was finally time that I watched the 1977 adaptation of The Hobbit. While I criticize Jackson’s adaptation of The Hobbit for being too long and pointlessly drawn out, this adaptation actually has the opposite problem. At just a little over an hour and with hasty pacing, the movie feels rushed and doesn’t dive into most events of the story with proper depth. While I did enjoy the animation a lot, there definitely were some design choices I wasn’t the biggest fan of, as well as certain inconsistencies, namely Bilbo’s hair changing colors throughout the movie. While it has some major problems, this adaptation is more faithful to the book than Jackson’s, and really captures a certain fantasy essence/charm.
