One thing I realized is that the first movie was so good because it was based on a famous book. For this movie they had to make up their own story. And here lies the problem.
They took everything that was great about the first movie and thew that out of the window.
First thing I immediately disliked was how it's not down to earth anymore (Even though the first movie had it's over the top moments). Rambo just had to go on this massive american rescue mission in Vietnam.
Speaking of Vietnam. This movie is filled with jingoism. It's like it the American army had a movie department. It feels like it was made with xenophobia in mind. Which the movie tries to tell us it's okay because they are communists.
In terms of the story what I particularly disliked was that in the first movie rambo didn't directly kill a single person. Here he killed so many people I lost count.
Also it's extremely boring. The whole middle section is just action scenes after action scene after another generic action scene.
The writing was on the same level or even worse than the first movie.
I was really disappointed.
