As a film buff, with a deep love for hindi-languge films, my brother nikhil is a must watch, to me. It’s presented with respect and great tolerance. Sanjay Suri and Purab Kohli truly deserve props.
My favorite scene is towards the end of the film, as Nikhil begins to slowly fade away in the hospital and in the arms of his lover. Using the dream sequence of Purab’s character (Nigel) as a vehicle, we see a young and healthy Nikhil running towards the screen, all smiles. Nigel awakens with almost no display of emotion, just an awarenes that it has happened; his lover has passed. Begins adjustingthe sheets and lays Nikhil’s eyes to rest. Stands away from the hospital bed, leaning against the doorway, breaks down and presents a monologue on their love; along the lines of crossing paths again at the next sunrise.
I mean, it was presented so effectively... I basically had goosebumps and was glad that there wasnt a “last breathe” cliche to depict the passing of Nikhil.
While My Brother Nikhil has always been lauded as a Sanjay Suri and Juhi Chawla starrer, I genuinely think Purab Kohli also deserves the same amount of props, thanks to his work as Nigel.
