The structure of having subplots per year which are: freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior—each one different yet fresh, but all cohesive enough to deliver one final message that, for me, is too complicated to decipher (definitely need to rewatch when the time comes)
The film shows different portrayals of love—maybe the stereotypical platonic, romantic, and familial—but it also does a good job of portraying patriotic and artistic love. The relationship between those forms of love, and how the Marcos regime especially affected them during those times, is significant. It shows how those conditions birthed the scholars of our nation.
As someone who also grew up in the same school over the course of my high school experience, it’s sad that we’re losing the very characteristics that make us Filipino. We’ve lost the assertiveness, the leadership, the sense of participation we need to fight back against a wretched system that only perpetuates bad governance. Yes, time has changed, but some things still remains
(hahaha baka kasi asa catholic private school lang ako na atupag ang financial more than the well being of its staff and students lol)
