I’ve been wanting to watch this film for ages now and I’ve finally go the chance now… let me tell you it was worth it.
I’m a fan of Prince, not a huge fan, but I like everything that I’ve heard, which is quite a bit. Anyway, ever since I’ve heard of this film’s existence I’ve wanted to watch it. If it was bad, I’d probably be so stupid, it’s great, so either way I’d thought I’d probably enjoy it. Well let me tell you, this movie is actually really good. It’s a really well made film that you can get a lot of enjoyment out of, even if you don’t like Prince's music (which I find to be impossible).
The film works on a lot of levels, one being that it’s an incredibly visually stunning film, it looks great. The other being the fact that the acting in this film is actually quite good…? When it comes to films starring musicians, the acting is usually pretty horrible, but Prince actually does quite well in this film, as well as every other actor in this.
Other than the visuals and acting, the plot is actually pretty interesting too, it really helps the movie feel like… well a movie! Most of these types of films think that having the celebrity in the movie is enough to make it good and that is almost never the case, this film understands that. It has some genuinely touching moment that convey real emotion. It really shows that they wanted to make a good movie out of this and I think that is exactly what they did.
So overall, I believe that this is an excellent film, it’s definitely something I could rewatch multiple times and not be bored of.
