I wanted to watch its local stage run back in 2019, but I didn’t have the money at the time lmao I also haven’t seen the original film yet, so I can’t compare the two. I know Bernal’s work is considered one of the greatest in Philippine cinema, so I went into this with pretty high expectations.
Based on what I’ve read, it definitely didn’t disappoint. From the very first frame, I was excited to see it lean into a stage-to-film approach; it felt like watching a pro shot with its own cinematic touch. I’m especially fascinated by how Ricky Lee kept the premise ambiguous, it really leaves you questioning whether Elsa actually saw something that day. I’m not sure if this is like the original film, but I liked how open-ended it felt here.
As for the songs and overall musical scoring, “Ako ang Tunay na Birhen” stood out to me the most. Kakki Teodoro absolutely delivered!!
