really sweet story about 3 siblings whos parents happen to be dead. i honestly thought theyd haunt the narrative but no it was mostly just about these siblings and their interpersonal relationships.
i think im partial to ushio bc he looks a bit like john cho. i love him and his track laying interest ❤️ i honestly love that hes a train track layer?? exposing myself here but most of the gay representation in japanese media ive seen is from BL manga, and i feel like i havent seen a lot of blue collar gay men in there 😭😭 so its nice to see that here. also i like that its suggested that he had the train interest bc of what his sister said after the funeral 🥲
the subject of trains is present throughout this movie, and it makes me wonder if its bc their parents died in a car crash?? like they cant trust cars so they only take trains now.
also I KNEW USHIO WOULD BE GAY!!! however i did not think it was gonna be with that author guy… i was expecting it to be w his coworker which seems stupid in retrospect
honestly that author guywas kind of weird for guilting ushio into moving in with him by saying he should let his sister have a life… like it felt like he was kind of manipulating both of them so ushio would move in with them.. AND ALSO GETTING MEGURO TO SHOW UP TO MEET YOKO?? maybe we’re just meant to understand that ushio is with a slightly evil guy, and you know what thats fine i support evil gays
i liked everything else too, i really loved the whole theme of being able to stay alone, and yoko coming to terms with the fact that shes alone in life but also realizing she’s just happy with that. as someone whos probably aromantic it was comforting to see a way that an grown woman can live life happily alone
i didnt mention miyako at al but i loved her too… the siblings are just very likable all around
the acting was a little off to me, but tbh i didnt care that much. overall very nice movie
