I've been thinking that if I were a dog, I would be a Borzoi, so seeing it get 2nd place in the hound category made me a little upset.Watching this was truly a cringeworthy experience. Not because it was bad, but because I know people just like this. No exaggeration, one of my grandmothers on my dad's side is just like Catherine O'Hara's character (apart from my Grandma having the corpses of the dogs that have passed away in an industrial freezer; I wish I was fucking with y'all).
Christopher Guest and his talented ensemble of actors play these parts with a rich sense of realism. I thought I was watching a real documentary for about five minutes. The comedic timing through the performances and editing, diverse characters, pacing, and settings are amazing. So much care was put into these characters, their personalities, quirks, and the juxtaposition between themselves and their dogs was genuinely thought-provoking.
Some of my favorite performances were from O'Hara, Eugene Levy, Jennifer Coolidge, and Parker Posey. Fred Willard's character was basically me the whole time. Do these dogs have any idea what's happening? This is such a ridiculous concept (almost as ridiculous as child padgents). These dogs have no fucking clue what's happening, and this allows us to truly see the high egos behind something so insignificant. I'm excited to check out 'Waiting For Guffman.'
