This film of interviews with the film director Jacques Rivette was produced in collaboration with Serge Daney, film critic from “Cahiers du cinéma”, then of “Liberation”. In the course of their conversations, the two speakers discuss Rivette’s career, his relationships with the other film makers of the new wave, his use of “mise en scene” and his working with actors.

I might be a bit bias with my rating and feeling towards this documentary since after all Rivette is my favorite director of all time and his film Out 1 pretty much changed my life and has influenced me in so many ways along with his other masterpieces but come on, people who are gonna watch this are either Rivette or French New Wave fans so for what it is its definitely a bit long but getting to see the man behind Celine and Julie Go Boating, Out 1, La Belle Noiseuse, The Nun, Joan the Maid, Duelle among other masterpieces talk for 2 hours is just a gift especially for me and Claire Denis' direction and whole presentation here is all around effectively and attractively simple and intact, very one to one, talking heads, interview approuch which normally I wouldn't find that special if one of the heads wasn't one of if not the most experimental filmmaker of the French New Wave and my favourite filmmaker.
