“What if hindi tayo sinakop ng mga dayuhan?” Ang ganda ng atmosphere, ng politics, at lalo na ng paggamit nila ng malalalim na salitang Tagalog... talagang kapani-paniwala.

Honestly, nakalimutan ko for a while na komedyante si Vic Sotto. This is probably the most serious I’ve ever seen him on screen, and he carried the role really well. He actually felt believable.

Hindi ko rin inexpect yung plot twist sa character ni Cristine Reyes na si Matimyas. That reveal genuinely caught me off guard. The movie knew when to stay restrained and when to hit hard. Yung ending, parang may pinapahiwatig na Part 2, and I wouldn’t mind.

Dapat talaga pinanood ko ‘to sa sine, pero okay na rin sa Netflix because I badly needed subtitles. Ang lalalim ng mga salitang ginagamit nila minsan.

this movie reeks of unrealized potential with underdeveloped ideas and wasted set design. while it isn’t all bad, it certainly leaves much to be desired and should have been heavily tweaked before release

from the premise alone, it could be expected that at some point this film would aim. it's quite interesting to imagine how the Philippines would look like if it weren’t invaded. the retained culture, monarchial government, the symbolism of colors and especially THE FLAG, down to the roots: there is soooo much potential for this kind of ambition story-wise.

kudos to the film’s dedication to details because the effort done was extensive for sure.

however, there were too many narratives all at once. na parang may hinahabol sa gitna ng palabas. the arcs weren’t even fully fleshed out and then another comes by... add the fact na hindi established ang world-building. the dialogue exchanges also felt like its trying so hard to be quoted??? naging cringe na siya throughout.

THOUGH this made me appreciate the Filipino language more. i love when im reminded of how beautiful my language is 🥹 a blade in english is a punyal. a soldier a bagani. dayang a princess.

ang lazy din nung matimyas storyline like its so predictable?

if this wasnt a movie and has been able to have much more screen time, ang dami sanang pwedeng naging na-explore. like The Banished and The King story... political relations across the whole world... the culture and the music... family pressures in an inherently political household...

All this to say na this could’ve been good. Like my country. Full of potential.

Philippines, you are so beautiful. I wish I could love you better.
