Barney, Christmas and the rest of the team comes face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks, who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill… or so he thought. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables -- but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet.

The Expendables 3
I loved the part where they tried something new and then decided, "nah, let’s continue with our old ways and stick to what we know best."

The Expendables' mission this time is to assassinate Stonebanks (Mel Gibson), but it goes horribly wrong, forcing Barney (Sylvester Stallone) to retire his old crew and look for new blood and new methods of warfare to complete the mission.

Of course, there are a lot of new characters like Wesley Snipes’ Doc, Glen Powell’s Thorn, Ronda Rousey’s Luna, Victor Ortiz’s Mars and Antonio Banderas’ Galgo, to name a few. Yet, only a few manage to leave an impression, which consists of old characters. I know the point of the Expendables is nostalgia, but why include new characters if you are not going to give them the limelight?

Banderas’ character of Galgo is fun tho, he channels his inner Puss from the Shrek franchise to create a blabbermouth Spaniard who is an effective comic relief. Wesley Snipes’ Doc gets to have a moment with his stealth skills as we see him take down multiple people.

The film tries to play with our emotions, but it doesn’t work because most of these characters were always written in a paper-thin way. I personally didn’t feel anything when Barney gave a lengthy monologue about how their time is up, and we have to lay down our guns. Maybe it is for people who grew up in that era, but not me.

Speaking of action, this franchise never disappoints, and there is plenty of PG shooting that still manages to be satisfying. The blood is missing, but the action and explosions were bombastic.

The Expendables 3
I guess no one told Antonio Banderas there’s no actual acting in these movies cus why did I sympathise so much with the guy who just wants to help kill people.
