forgive me for the very angry and long thinkpieces, but……
this could’ve been an absolutely incredible story if it weren’t for the unnecessary subplots of pedophilia. i genuinely don’t get it.
the film was already pushing boundaries with its dialogue and symbolism. the discomforting and disturbing scenes could’ve served the same purpose if it wasn’t concerning a SIX (6) year old. okay portraying innocence blah blah blah, NO. it was a very very very unnecessary subplot that served NO artistic nor moral value. and for everyone on here quoting that scene like it’s some funny reference, you’re part of the problem.
and what’s more enraging is how this is portrayed in a positive light. like i get the romantic aspect of it is so beautifully done and the main plot is AMAZING. but i don’t get how this gets quoted like it’s some funny/“obscure”/quirky gem. my issue is that when this goes on pinterest for all its pretty scenes, or when people worship it for its unusual themes, or when teenagers who don’t have the media literacy to understand what’s going on quote it on tumblr, you’re dismissing the message of the film and at times i think the film itself is dismissing its own message by trying to be cool. it was like only 2 scenes where the insane amount of pedophilia FINALLY gets addressed.
