What exactly is 'Drink'?
I'm glad I finally rrewatched this movie. There is so much in this movie that is so smart, from the presentation of LA to the bizarre ending, that it all wraps together nicely in a neat little bow.
This is such a grungy little exploration into seediness, with some gneuinky fun social commentary (it would pair nicely with something like 'They Live'). I love all of the stuff involving Otto, Bud, and the other Repo Men. We get a sense of their job, philosophies, and how everybody surrounding them is miserable, given the disadvantages thrown their way.
The Sci-Fi stuff was fun, but I wish it had been better incorporated into the story. While it does come together nicely at the end, much of it just felt there to me, and not like it was building to something.
The Repo Men stuff is fairly loose, while the Sci-Fi elements feel very direct, and I feel this makes the movie's pacing feel slower than it actually is.
Emilio Estevez is fun in this movie, and Harry Dean Stanton is just a blast, as always. Each of the characters interacts with this world in a way that complements it, making it feel so real.
I have issues with it, but it's a great time; definitely watch it.
