Kind of disappointed we didn't get a Q&A from the hen after this fest screening.
I feel similarly about this as I felt with Good Boy. Through the sound design, cinematography, and animal handling, they were able to project highly expressive human emotions onto the lead. Where Good Boy hit all the horror tropes, Hen hit a spectrum of comedic notes. I snorted when she was running under the box and face planted the whole thing. Also loved the over the top romance music when she spots the roosters. Regardless of anything in the plot itself, it's interesting to watch the great film craft.
On paper, I love the idea of playing this whimsical hen opposite the deadly serious smuggling operation, and there's even a decent story going on there independent the hen. However, it didn't sit right when (being intentionally vague so I don't have to spoiler tag this whole thing) a truck load of humans being smuggled were downstream from hen antics. I'm not sure if it's some high-minded point about animal cruelty or just the easiest way for the hen to force things into the third act.
