fucking hell this was one of those films where you don’t want to the cinema lights to turn back on cus you look a wreck xx couldn’t miss seeing this with my fellow bristol serb but we were not ready for this and my head hurts 🥲 i felt every emotion watching this you can really tell it’s a true story in the way thea gajic depicts both addiction and her dad in this, you can’t help but love vlad and be rooting for him yet understand why he is the way he is, the performances were incredible all round the colours and cinematography 10/10 and the words something to do, someone to love and something to look forward to are great words to live by, can’t believe this is a debut and a true story this film will stay with me forever especially the dedication at the end

Surviving Earth is an absolutely remarkable debut from Thea Gajić. It’s confident, thoughtful, and very well directed, with some genuinely nice cinematography that gives the whole film a raw, intimate feel without ever tipping into self-indulgence.
Slavko Sobin is fucking incredible. His performance anchors the entire film, and he portrays the inner struugle of Vlad beautifully. It’s the kind of performance that quietly sneaks up on you.
The film also handles the theme of addiction really well. It’s honest without being preachy, sensitive without being sentimental, and it never loses sight of the human side of the struggle at its core or glorifies it.
On a personal note, it was cool seeing all the shots of Bristol (my hometown), and the film definitely manages to capture the spirit of the city.
A striking, emotionally intelligent debut that announces Thea Gajić as a filmmaker to watch. I sense a best debut BAFTA nomination coming.
