Milla Jovovich loves her dual pistol montages. Honestly, the plot was not bad at all. In fact I really think a good director was the only thing needed to bring this justice. Milla knows how to act.

I really wanted to like this film. It's the first Hollywood film fully invested and produced by a Korean studio. But damn, this movie was horrible. I can't say a single good thing about it. The writing was insanely bad. The casting was so off. Matthew Modine as a special ops colonel? He was a sorry version of Sam Trautman. Oof. The action is meh. The costume and sound was sub. I mean, I really can't say anything positive about this film other than the fact that it was only 90 mins. I wanted it to be good. Senior Milla tries her best but damn, she does not have a voice for narrating. Bad storytelling and the director should've known better. The twist didn't hit because everything was so bad. How did Blossom spend $30M on this film? It looked like a $2M movie. So disappointing!!

Protector feels like a 2010s ps3 game but instead of playing it I'm watching the cutscenes on YouTube. It does some interesting things both good and bad, feels generic but has some fun moments.
The weirdest thing the movie does is it breaks the show don't tell rule. After the kidnapping we skip an entire probably generic but cool action sequences to jump to what's Normally the second act of these kind of movies. To play devils advocate with the twist this can work but it's not set up well to do that. So I appreciate what they were trying to do especially given the twist but they don't set up the twist well enough for it to work.
As for the action. It's mostly fine. I've seen better and it definitely leans into more b movie action scenes. The biggest problem with it is I think the budget went all to the admittedly cool last action sequence. Everything before that is fun but done before in better movies.
The twist isn't bad. I think it can actually work well to make a movie like this more interesting. It just isn't set up well and feels like it comes out of nowhere. So it's a waste of a good idea just because the little details don't support the big reveal.
As for Milla. She's the best part. She brings ex military badass well to screen. Her last action scene is done well too. Her character just could have Been more interesting given the ending.
I also think this movie should have been called 72 hours. It makes more sense than protector given the context we get in the movie itself.
So in the end protector is fine. It's not good but not bad. It's biggest problem is it's wasted potential. Given the twist, it could have been something that could stand out in 100s of these kinds of movies but poor execution let's it down.
