Kresten, newly wed, is on the threshold of a great career success in his father-in-law’s company. But when the death of his own father takes him back to his poverty-stricken childhood home, far out in the country, his career plans fall apart. For one thing he has to deal with his loveable, backward brother, who is now all alone; for another, he meets a stunning woman who comes to the farm as a housekeeper, in disguise of her real profession as a call-girl.

Danish cinema really said: here’s some filth, mental illness, broken families and human misery - but also, here’s a little warmth if you’re brave enough to look past the shit.

They’re not trying to shock you. They’re just peeling off the mask, until there’s nothing left but a human being. And somehow that hits harder than any sentimental monologue ever could.

It's a romcom stripped of the inherent romanticism of the artifice of filmmaking, and that's commendable, even if messy. The Dogme 95 experiment in this regards does just focus a lot of attention on individual relationships tertiary to the leads, which ends up strengthening the central core relationship

Nicht so verstörend wie Das Fest und Idioten, weswegen es sich angefühlt hat, als würde etwas fehlen. Habe noch nicht wirklich den Kern der Story verstanden, aber abgesehen davon war das ein schöner Film.

Und ich fand den Move vom Regisseur lustig, einfach ganz random eine Band in einigen Szenen im Raum zu platzieren und Musik spielen zu lassen, um der einen Regel von Dogma 95 zu umgehen, die es einem verbietet, nacheditierte Musik zu benutzen
