“Even if we do it, I won’t fall in love with you. Couldn’t we be friends?”
There’s so much I loved about this film: the performances are amazing, and the filmmaking reminds me a bit of Pialat (specifically Graduate First). The scene in the ocean splashing with friends, the clock speeding up at the pub, the karaoke after a coworker loses two toes in a work-related accident: I loved all that. And despite the protagonist treating women like shit, I adored every female character. They felt so alive.
But: I’m really exhausted by coming of age films made for boys having such disgusting protagonists. So that admittedly made The Drudgery Train feel very long.
I bet I’d like Linda Linda Linda a lot more.
