I feel bad that I wasn’t as into this as a lot of the reviews here; it was so so so neat to see the view of nomadic Mongolian life, the way the environment is captured on screen is beautiful, and all the kids were cute, but when it came to the actual story I kinda figured what would happen in the end (it is a happy ending! No dog death). It is a child-like fable which is neat but not necessarily my favorite thing. I can definitely see me showing this to my future kid though because it is so sweet and pure. It’s not exactly a documentary because it is scripted, but the movie does feature a family who plays themselves, so there is a lot of trust between the actors and director and everything in the movie feels very natural.

I am not sure what the story the old woman told Nansal is meant to imply. Is the dog coming back for the couple? Is Nansal a cute dog reincarnated? Am I not used to Buddhism? (Yes, most definitely).
