Directed by Fred Zinnemann (From Here to Eternity, A Man for All Seasons), Oklahoma! made history being the first film shot in 65mm, and to be presented in 70mm by Todd-AO, a format used for many old roadshow versions of American epics in the late 50’s and 60’s. As for this film, while it’s stunning Technicolor is beautiful, the story is rather boring if I’m being honest. I liked some of the musical numbers, specifically Surrey With a Fringe On Top, because it reminded me of the scene where Harry and Sally sing it in When Harry Met Sally. But overall, this is a fairly boring watch for such an important film in film history.
