I wish I watched this movie with my family, it’s so us I mean Tangier and Spain and grandmas, and bargaining for antiques in Spanish and Moroccan. But they’re not into drama movies like this. If this was a horror we’d all watch it.
Anyway I never thought I’d see a movie representing the connection between Tangier and Spain like this. How many abuelas used to live there and that literally all of Tangier used to speak Spanish. It was a beautiful movie, exploring the connection between ethnicity and the place you call home. It represented all the little details so well like the baqal bringing up her groceries, sending money to the little boy to pay her electricity and water bills for her, the cafe next door that brings in a lot of money bcs the men love their football and tea and then stealing the cafes idea by hosting it at her flat instead. How close the neighbours are. It was just so like is this how Koreans feel watching kdramas and Americans watching euphoria, and brits watching skins? It was so crazy to me seeing the boulevard from the taxi window omg.
I discovered this movie because my dad told me I reminded him of Farida Benlyazd, and I will watch one of her movies soon trust but then found out Maryam who’s also a Moroccan director and then saw Calle Malaga and I was like come on now. This is so perfect. Anyways yeah such a good sentimental movie I loved it.
