absolutely heartbreaking. the film tackles such an important subject matter that most people either choose to ignore or are completely ignorant about. the cast of characters here are all kids or young adults, who have been let down by their families or just society in general, just looking for a home where they belong. each of the many characters is incredibly distinct and full of personality. there are many points of what seems to be hope and light, yet there is always this underlying sadness present. i think the tone is done masterfully throughout the whole film. the actors are also all fantastic and the cinematography is unreal. i love makoto nagahisa's style here and i loved it in his short "and so we put goldfish in the pool" as well. i truly loved this whole film it was fantastic.
