These are the types of movies you go to the cinema for, they executed this so well. The music in this movie is beautiful, it is a perfect mix of emotional scenes, but also a great way of telling the story. I did not expect to really like this when going in, but I have to say it was worth it. Also, I have to mention the role of Amanda Seyfried here, definitely one of the reasons for this movie to be so great.

that said, this felt like a 'summary of events', which didn't work for me - the entire premise of Ann Lee hinges on charisma as a theological force. people surrender their autonomy and sexuality to her - but there’s no pull at all. for a movie about the female second coming of Christ, there's not really a convincing 'why' - her followers just keep spawning.

we're also 2/2 on Mona Fastvold and Brady Corbet having sus politics. why did you show me a black woman and indigenous man nodding approvingly at Ann Lee? was the ingenious man grateful the Shakers were on his land? weird.
