Watching Force Awakens now is bittersweet because it does so many things right, and makes its audience excited for a competent trilogy, and some fantastic new Star Wars content. What we got was one of the rockiest series of films since X-Men, for what was supposed to be a defined story. For as many problems as the prequels had, Lucas had his story laid out. He knew where it was going, and paced it over three films.

So if you're a mega-corporation looking for new IP to plunder, have a road map before you release the first film to the public. It will make you more money in the long run.
