as someone who has played the game in the past, this was such a faithful adaptation - with obviously the difference of having so much more lore in the movie. the subway station looked identical to the game, and i loved how most of the shots felt like they were all filmed in one continuous take. the first person POV at the start of the movie was also something i haven’t seen for a long time, and i think it was really helpful for establishing the surrounding environment. i also loved how the different chapters allowed us to see a different characters’ backstory, as it was interesting seeing how the walking man became what he is.
saw someone else mention that this was the only movie where you could actually play the game with them, and that’s so true. it was quite annoying how slow the main character was - surely you would’ve noticed walking past the same person after the 5th time. i loved how claustrophobic the corridors felt, but i feel like there wasn’t enough horror in this film - there wasn’t a single time i felt scared. i know the original game isn’t scary either, but there could’ve been a lot of ways to potentially add some more jumpscares to make the experience more thrilling.
only major downside for me was how the movie dragged on at times, but that’s what happens when you try to make a 5 minute game into a feature length film. wasn’t a perfect movie, but for how they executed the concept, i’d highly recommend watching.
