It makes me happy how many great Toronto-centric films have come this year… and it’s only April.

Toronto premiere @ Paradise Theatre followed by Q&A with Leah Fay Goldstein, Peter Dreimanis, and Luke Lalonde

Really thought I’d like this more than I did. I love July Talk! I’ve seen them in concert more than any other band. Overall this one didn’t click with me. I obviously liked the leads but I felt like their chemistry was a bit off and it’s most likely due to the script. The writing was great at capturing comedic moments but unfortunately wasn’t able to hit those same highs with the emotional moments.

In the Q&A it was alluded to that they really stuck to the script and wanted to keep it at 80 minutes but I feel like this would have benefited with some improv as both leads have natural chemistry together. This film could have also benefited from being longer.
