A surprisingly chill interpretation of the story of Jeanne d’Arc, with a graceful interpretation of the title role by Sandrine Bonnaire. She’s one of my favorite historical figures, and they did a great job with this (so far). It felt like a gentle breeze more than a historical epic, with grand battles skipped over in favour of calm conversations between soldiers. It’s probably just a question of budget, though.
I could see this become a bit of a comfort film for me, being such of fan of Jeanne already. But we’ll have to see where this goes, first… And how they handle her tragic downfall.
