You Can Count on Me might be one of the most honest portrayals of siblings I’ve seen. The relationship feels messy in a way that is completely believable.
No one here is really on their best behavior. They make bad decisions, hurt each other, and stumble through things they clearly don’t know how to handle. But the film lets you see the pain sitting underneath all of it, which makes it hard not to root for them anyway.
The writing is fantastic and the performances carry the whole thing, especially Mark Ruffalo, who is just sensational.
