one of the most visually inspiring films i’ve ever seen, sort of like how poetically psychedelic wong kar-wai films are. like videodrome, the influence of media taking form of a living being. changing the concept of eroticism and making it about loose attractiveness, terrifying body positions, twisting it into the realms of something non-erotic.
the cinematography is impeccable with how little effort is actually used. the camera itself acts like an entity flowing with every expression the body makes. there’s always a sense of voyeurism in every reflection of any object and every seemingly sadistic kink with the obvious camera kink constantly thrown around the film.
i think the main reason why i connected with this piece of art is because how imaginative it is of reality. i’ve noticed that mirroring is a huge being in this film. as it not only tries to mirror reality with its overwhelmingly sexual nature. but it also mirrors how the difference in perverted wonders are based on environment rather than person. as well as how a reflection of yourself doesn’t reflect you as a person. but it acts as another piece of voyeurism too.
hisayasu sato is a master at manipulating the audience with the camera. making the normal world seem indifferent, without any real nonsensical and bizarre techniques.
